Despite the ups and downs of total employment in the region, the demand for educated workers has been steadily increasing over the past ten years as a share of total employment. High-skill employment, defined as jobs that require at least a bachelor’s degree, now comprise 32% of employment in the Boston MSA, up from 23% in 2004. Mid-skill jobs require some college or an associate degree. The low-skill job sector requires a high school diploma or less.
